President's Message
April 15th 2009
Fellow Rotarians:
We are approaching the end of the Rotary year on June 30th 2009 and we have achieved so many goals.
Goal #1. HELPING CHILDREN IN NEED LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY
We have initiated three major projects locally.
- At Tillicum School we have a three year literacy programme started and with our Salvation Army partners we have saved the breakfast programme for this school year.
- With our Boys and Girls Club partners we are saving children at risk from the streets for a full school year.
- With our Cridge Family partners we are helping single mothers get an education while their children are in a safe environment.
With our Anglican partners in Africa we have a three year “adopt a village programme at Emmaloba, Kenya where we are helping children to have clean water, educational tools and medical attention.
Goal #2. ENHANCE MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS AND ENJOYMENT
The club has grown from 92 to 97 members with a regular attendance of about 60 members at our entertaining and enlightening lunch programmes at the Union Club every Monday. New members comment positively on the activity, location and dedication of the club. Our award winning bulletin reflects the members' achievements.
Goal #3. ENHANCE ROTARY AWARENESS IN THE COMMUNITY.
A core group of dedicated Rotarians is helping children and youth in the community through many programmes including our vibrant Rotaract and Interact clubs. Our PR and website committees have been getting the word out about Rotary.
Goal #4. CONTRIBUTE TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION.
Our RI committee has successfully focused on contributions for TRF towards world peace and international projects. We have over achieved in the Bill Gates challenge to help eradicate polio worldwide.
Goal #5. HAND OVER AN ACTIVE & SOLVENT CLUB.
The club is fiscally sound and every charitable penny available has been well invested in the community. We have started the car raffle to raise donation funds for president elect Dr Keith Walker and his board to whom we wish the very best.
