TWO ROTARY FOUNDATIONS
The Rotary Club of Victoria supports two separate foundations:
- The Rotary Foundation, administered by Rotary International
- The Rotary Club of Victoria B.C. Foundation, administered by our own club
The Rotary Foundation supports international programmes throughout the
world and the Rotary Club of Victoria B.C. Foundation supports programmes and charities within our Victoria community.
Both foundations are funded by gifts. The Rotary Foundation
is funded by Paul Harris Fellows (named in honour of the Founder of Rotary). To
become a Paul Harris Fellow one has to donate U.S. $1,000, either as a single
sum or in steps over several years. Alternatively the U.S. $1,000 maybe donated
in someone's honour or memory. Over eighty of our club members are Paul Harris
Fellows.
The Rotary Club of Victoria B.C. Foundation is funded
directly through donations from club members. At the club meeting following his
or her birthday the secretary hands the member an envelope. The Sergeant at
Arms collects the envelopes, now containing a donation, when the President announces
the birthdays. The amounts individual members give are entirely discretionary -
they vary between $2.00 and $1,000.00 with the typical donation being around
$20.00.
Both foundations are registered charities and receipts for
tax purposes are issued.
