District 5020 Conference Registration

The Rotary District Conference will be held June 4, 5 & 6 in Longview Washington. You can go online to register and make your hotel reservations, learn about the wonderful speakers that will be attending and more.

If you prefer to register by mail you can use the Conference Registration Form that you can print out and fill in.

Each member's registration fee is covered in the district dues. The only cost to the member will be the meal packages or any special events in which your members wish to participate.

If members wish to participate in the Free Home Hospitality night – a great way to get acquainted with Rotarians from other areas – you are encouraged to sign up right away. The participation will be limited to the number of homes that will be participating.

The conference is also looking for displays in the exhibit room. It is a great opportunity to showcase successful local or international projects. Many times there are clubs that would like to support your efforts especially on an international basis.

Hope to see all of you there.

Ross Noble

Ross Alexander Stewart Noble

It is with great sadness that Ross's family announces his passing at Victoria Hospice, after a very brief illness, on December 2, 2008.

Ross was born in Sydney, Australia, on December 9, 1932 and moved to Canada in 1952. After a long and enjoyable career with DuPont, he moved with Susan to Victoria in 2000. Ross is survived by his loving wife, Susan, son, Michael (Margarethe), daughter, Diana (Brian), beloved granddaughters (Tara, Nicole, Savannah), sister Janice (Peter), and his extensive family in Australia. More than anything else, Ross loved family, and arranged his life so that he could be with them often. He was a true gentleman principled, loyal, kind and considerate to all a man of quiet dignity and great personal integrity who will be deeply missed by his family and vast circle of friends. Ross had a warm giving heart, a hearty laugh, and loved to help people.

Active in his Church, the Rotary Club, and his hiking group, Ross was a strong man whom you could always depend on; he would do anything for the people he loved. It was Ross's nature to help those around him see the positive side of life's challenges. Life is a Journey" was his most repeated phase. His generous, positive spirit will remain with us always. A very special thanks to his Home and Community Care nurses, the staff at the BC Cancer Agency, and the wonderfully compassionate team at Victoria Hospice who helped him end his life journey with dignity and love.

At Ross's request, there will be no funeral, but donations in Ross's memory may be sent to ShelterBox Canada, 1272 Mysty Woods, Victoria, BC V8Y 3G6.

Reg William Hind
January 13, 1922 - March 13, 2008

Reg was the loving patriarch of his family, a great friend to many and a huge contributor of service to this community. He follows the recent passing of the love of his life, Margaret and leaves behind his children, Ginny, Ronni (Lee) and Scott (Catherine). "Grandad" will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jenny, Graeme, Robyn and Alex Izard, Meghan, Ryan and Reid Edmondson and Lauren Carling and Devon Hind. He loved social gatherings where he could spend quality time with the two important ingredients in his life; family and friends. He positively influenced those that knew him. The way he lived his life set an example for us all.

KENT, George Edward
Oct. 17, 1915 Dec. 16, 2007

George was predeceased by his loving wife, Gwen, some ten years ago and leaves to mourn, his sons Chris (Leslea) and granddaughter Cindy of Victoria, Tom (Patti) of Palm Springs, daughter Susan of Duncan, BC and a legion of friends that span the four corners of the globe. George, as we all know had two passions in life, singing and sailing. Singing began as a boy soprano in Winnipeg and led to an illustrious career that spanned almost 50 years which included many operas, recordings with the BBC (when he served with the RCAF from 1942-45), CBC and numerous appearances with various symphony orchestras in the USA and Canada. He was once considered one of the finest tenors in Canada. His love for sailing began when he built a small "Sunfish" boat with planks dried out from the living room floor following the 1950 flood in Winnipeg. George suffered from "two foot itus" and the list of boats that he and Gwen enjoyed would fill a small book. How he and Gwen loved their cottage and sailing at Clearwater Bay, Ontario and cruising the Gulf Islands in BC and the San Juans in Washington, especially Garrison Bay. After a successful business career in Winnipeg, he and Gwen moved to Victoria. A member of Rotary International since 1954 his volunteer activities included becoming President of The Rotary Club of Victoria. Over the years, he was responsible for helping raise thousands of dollars for various charities and projects, especially the Rotary choirs. His involvement in Rotary and his love for yachting eventually led to becoming International Commodore for the IYFR. He certainly was a man who gave more than he received. Special thanks go to the staff of The Wellesley, The Parkwood Court and especially to Dr. Walter Chow and staff for their care and compassion over the years.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1 PM at The Royal Victoria Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the The Rotary Club of Victoria Foundation, 805 Gordon St., Victoria BC, V8W 1Z6, or the Salvation Army, 4030 Douglas St., Victoria BC, V8X 5J6. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com. Keep the faith! 433150
