Trip Down Under - Sept 2010
Day 42 - Dunedin to Christchurch
Started out from Dunedin to Christchurch on another bright sunny day. As we got back to the sea for the Moeraki Boulders we drove into heavy fog. The Moeraki concretions were interesting - much like boulders we saw near Medicine Hat. We then stopped at a Blue Penguin Colony at Oamaru. There were many nesting penguins, but none out walking around - they leave at dawn and return at dusk. We saw adults and chicks in the nesting shelters.
IN Oamaru there are Victorian-era buildings everywhere. We wandered down one old street with working warehouses and shops and a bakery - we got sweet tarts as a treat.
Arrived in Christchurch about 5 pm and set out on a walk to the centre of the city. Immediately we saw evidence of the earthquake. That evening around midnight Gordon felt an aftershock which was the biggest for several days - enough to be distinctly felt.
