Day 41 - Dunedin III
We took a 1-hour bus tour of the city to see if there were more places we really wanted to see. Decided to tour the Railway Building in detail, have lunch at the Octagon, then walk to the Otago University and call it a day.
When we arrived in town we were surprised to see many people sitting out drinking champagne and dining at 10 am. They all seemed to be dressed up with fancy hats for the women and lots of guys with fedoras and light suits. When we got to the train station at we discovered it was all for the Melbourne Cup horse race and everyone was dressed in their race finery as for Ascot. At noon people boarded the Taieri Gorge Railway cars and headed out to the racetrack.
