Trip Down Under - Sept 2010
Day 39 - Dunedin I

Had to backtrack 50 km through glorious scenery to get the road to Dunedin. Stopped at the restored bridge at Shotover (thanks to Rotary), Meg outfalls, and at the pass summit past Cromwell. The route through the mountains was every bit as good as yesterday. Once over the mountains we were back into more sheep and cattle land - still quite hilly and unlike our prairie/foothill rangeland. Got into Dunedin about 1 pm.

It was bright and sunny, but blowing a gale and we pulled out the long-sleeved outerware for the first time. Took a quick look at the beach at St Kilda and then went into the centre of town and walked around the Octagon area where the old historic buildings are located. Enjoyed the writers walk with all the quotations and plotted out lunch for another day at the cafes around the Octagon.

On the way back to the motel we stopped and went down to the beach at St Kilda - had to cross a huge dunes with lovely soft sand that got all through our shoes.... A few surfers were out and a few people were sitting in the grass out of the wind enjoying the day. It is actually unseasonably warm and would have been a great day without the wind.  Motel is great except that it is not near the centre of the city.
