¥Incompatibility with MIDI Manager and Perfoma 5200/5300/6200/6300 I have received e-mail from a number of people who have experienced crashes using the MIDI Manager with these Performas. After much ado, it turn out that the MIDI Manager doesn't seem to like being called from PowerPC code on those machines. Whether or not this is an Apple 68K Emulator bug or perhaps a Mixed Mode Manager bug is unknown at this time. I have heard from some other MIDI developers that they are having similar problems. To get technical, whenever the routine "MIDIAddPort" is called from a PowerPC routine, the computer freezes. However, if you call it from a 68K routine, it doesn't freeze. This leads me to believe that there's probably some Mixed Mode stuff that's not working correctly. The workaround at present is to use the 68K version of QuickTime MIDI Player on those computers, even though they use a PowerPC chip. If anyone has any further information or feedback with regards to this, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me your info. And, of course, if anyone can get the PowerPC version to run on their Performa, please please please tell me how so I can e-mail all the other people in distress! Terry Greeniaus 1 July 1996
