Full Page MIDI Files

QT MIDI Plugin also supports the use of full-page plugins. This makes it a "MIDI File" viewer. As you will see, you can see more information with a full-page viewer than with an embedded one.

Here is a list of some MIDI files that will appear on a full page:

Tubular Bells II by Mike Oldsfield
This is one of the most complicated MIDI files I have been able to find. It's the music from the "Exorcist". This MIDI file makes use of tons of features, including stereo sound. (Yes, QuickTime and QT MIDI Plugin both suppport full stereo sound!) Warning: This is a BIG, COMPLEX MIDI file, 315k, and will not sound very good on anything except the most powerful computers. It plays not too badly on my PowerMac 7500/100. It's about 25 minutes long.
Mars from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst
This is a pretty neat file. It's "Mars the God of War" from Gustav Holst's suite, "The Planets." It doesn't make use of stereo sound, but is still a rather complex file. 58k.
Jeux d'Eau by Maurice Ravel
This is a famous piano piece by Maurice Ravel. This is not a very complex file at all and should play back well on just about any computer. 27k.

In the full-page mode, you can see the list of all of the instruments that are playing, and when they play. You can save a copy of the MIDI file if you want, using the "Save a copy" button. This is useful because Netscape will put it in the "Cache" folder, with a cryptic name like "cache9872342.mid", which really isn't very helpful. Saving a copy will allow you to use a real name and put it wherever you want to. It will also save it as a Netscape file - double clicking on it will cause Netscape to load and play the MIDI file.

You will also notice that by moving the mouse over the "QT MIDI Plug-in" title that this is also a hyperlink that will take you to my home page. Clicking on the QuickTime icon will again bring up the registration dialog.
