Mediterranean Cruise - Ephesus - 5 September 2012

After the Monument to St. John we went to the Ephesus Museum. Again we were almost the only people in the building so it was easy to look carefully at all the exhibits. The best murals and statues had been moved to the museum from the main site.

Below the St. John Monument hill was the Temple of Artemis - our next stop. Again few other tourists. THere was one column satanding, but the full temple was the size of a football field.

The final stop before the main Ephesus ruins was the last House of the Virgin Mary. She lived on a hill some distance from Ephesus because she was in some physical danger. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a Roman Catholic nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death.
